Following this, six persons electrocuted to death while several others sustained critical injuries.
According to reports, the ill-fated bus was on its way to from Jangalpadu to Chikarada village in for attending an engagement ceremony. The persons inside the bus were electrocuted after the bus came in contact with the high voltage electric wire at around 1 pm.
After getting information police and Fire Services personnel reached the spot and started rescue operations. The injured persons were admitted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here for treatment while four of them were later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as their condition deteriorated.
“A probe will be carried out to ascertain the circumstances which led to the mishap. Treatment of the victims is our current priority,” said Padmanabha Behera, Transport Minister.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed his deep grief and condoled the death of six persons in a tragic road mishap near Golanthara in Ganjam district today.
The CM conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved families and announced ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased.
