Biramitrapur tribal girl’s rape & abortion case.

NFTV:Odisha:Sundargarh: Today a team of Odisha crime branch today produces Ananda Majhi the dismissed inspector in charge of Biramitrapur police station in the court of Sundargarh ADJ and POCSO special Judge. According to report on 1st of July Odisha Crime Branch arrested Biramitrapur Police Station’s former inspector-in-charge (IIC) Ananda Majhi for allegedly subjecting a 13-year-old tribal girl to rape inside the police station and then forcibly terminating her pregnancy in Sundargarh district.

The alleged gang-rape case was registered against the former IIC and five other persons, including another unidentified officer of Biramitrapur Police Station, survivor’s stepfather, and two local youths, on June 22. On Tuesday, Director General of Police (DGP) Abhay had ordered Crime Branch to take up the investigation into the case.

Ananda Majhi had been absconding since the registration of the case against him. Crime Branch said that it wasn’t easy to arrest him as has a “police brain”. However, the investigating officials traced him to a mango orchard in Angul district. Hours before Ananda Majhi’s arrest on Wednesday, the DGP dismissed him from service for his “shameful” conduct.

The minor girl was found crying outside the police station. She was rescued by an NGO and then handed over to the district’s child welfare committee. The victim told the CWC that she was waiting for an auto-rickshaw to go back home after watching a local fair in Biramitrapur when police patrolling vehicle picked her in March before the imposition of the lockdown. She was taken to Biramitrapur Police Station where Ananda Majhi allegedly raped her. The minor’s ordeal did not end there. She was often asked to come to the police station and Majhi sexually assaulted her.
